Uganda packs more primate variety into a single itinerary than almost anywhere else on the continent. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park alone holds close to half the world’s remaining mountain gorillas, split across several habituated families, while Mgahinga Gorilla National Park next door adds golden monkey tracking in the same volcanic foothills.
Kibale National Park, a few hours’ drive north, has the highest chimpanzee density in East Africa, and Queen Elizabeth National Park’s savannah makes it easy to add a classic game drive to the same trip. Good roads and a relatively compact geography mean these different ecosystems sit closer together here than in most neighbouring countries.
