Not every primate encounter needs a permit or a pre-dawn start. Guided nature walks through forests like Bwindi’s Buhoma trails or Nyungwe’s canopy walkway route regularly turn up black-and-white colobus troops, vervet monkeys and various guenon species, often at closer range than the more cautious great apes.
These walks run at a relaxed pace, usually two to three hours, and work well as a lower-intensity day between more demanding treks, or as the main primate activity for travellers who want to keep things easy without missing primates entirely.

Sightings are very likely but not guaranteed the way a permitted gorilla trek is, since there is no dedicated tracker locating a specific family beforehand. In practice, colobus and vervet monkeys are common enough that most walks find several groups.
