Chimpanzee Habituation Experience Tours

Kibale’s habituation program, based around the Sebitoli and Bigodi areas, lets a small number of visitors join researchers from sunrise until the community beds down for the night. Chimpanzees build a new sleeping nest every evening, so following them from morning to night means covering real ground through the forest.

This is less about a single dramatic encounter and more about spending real hours observing a community’s rhythm: foraging routes, social hierarchy playing out in real time, and the patient, repetitive work of habituation itself. It suits travellers who want depth over a checklist sighting.

How much walking does this actually involve?

More than a standard chimp trek. You are following an active community for most of the daylight hours, which can mean several kilometres of forest walking spread across the day rather than one continuous hike.
